Which Phase Are You In?

The
three phases of chiropractic care: Like most
chiropractic patients you probably fit into one of
three phases of care. In fact, different parts of your
spine may be in different phases of care at the same
time. Why not ask us which phase you are in?
1.
The Acute Phase. In this phase you are in a
state of ill health, discomfort or pain; people often
visit a chiropractor when they’re in this phase.
2.
Reconstructive or Spinal Healing Phase. In this
phase you go to your chiropractor because your spine
needs to strengthen and heal. In this phase you may
find that nearly every time you come in for a spinal
checkup your spine is out of alignment.
3.
Health Optimization Phase.
Now your spine is holding its
adjustments; you come in every so often for a spinal
checkup and possible adjustment. Since Subluxations
are often painless you never know when you need an
adjustment so think of this phase in the same way that
you think of a car tune-up every few thousand miles.
More
breast-feeding means less breast cancer!
A major study published in the August
2002 medical journal
The Lancet may explain the increase in breast
cancer cases. Researchers found that the number
of children women have and the length of time they
breast-feed them are the most important factors
influencing their chance of developing breast cancer —
even more important than genetic factors.

As early as 1743 an Italian researcher
noticed that nuns had a high rate of breast cancer,
and considered the disease an occupational hazard of
nuns due to their childlessness. The recent study
revealed that if women in the industrialized world
breast-fed each of their children six months longer,
they could reduce their chance of breast cancer by 5
percent, even if they have a strong family history of
the disease. “The risks go down the more children you
have. Even if they’d never breast-fed, the risk of
breast cancer went down by 7 percent for every
additional child,” said lead
researcher Valerie Beral.
The researchers also found that,
regardless of the number of children, the risk of
breast cancer dropped by 4.3 percent for every year
the women breast-fed. “What we have shown is that
prolong-ing breast-feeding and having more children
pushes down breast cancer rates.” The magnitude of
protection was the same in all women, regard-less of
other characteristics, such as ethnic origin, drinking
habits and age at menopause.
50% of mothers in the United States,
about 25% in Europe and about 10% in Scandinavia
choose not to breast-feed. ”Prolonging breast-feeding
and having lots of children really pushes breast
cancer rates down” said Beral.
"If women had
the same number of children as those in developing
countries and breast-fed for as long, breast cancer
would be a very rare disease," says Beral of the
University of Oxford. (4)
Chiropractic and Spinal Research
Did you know there are thousands of
papers on the wonders of chiropractic? Please

-
Attention deficit disorder/scoliosis: This is
the case of a ten-year-old girl on 60 mg. Ritalin/day
who also had a severe scoliosis
of
48 degrees. After ten adjustments her mother
reported a happier child, with her immune system
doing much better and her endurance
much higher. A re-exam revealed scoliosis
reduced to 12 degrees. She was taken off all
medication. (5)
-
Effects of chiropractic on blood
pressure
and anxiety: In this
double-blinded placebo-controlled study, individuals
with elevated blood pressure, both systolic and
diastolic blood pressure decreased significantly in
the adjusted group. Adjustments were delivered to
segments T-1 to T-5 of the 21 patients in the group
adjusted. No significant changes occurred in the
placebo or control groups. (6)
-
Attention
deficit-hyperactivity
disorder: A 10-year-old
boy with a three year history of hyper-activity who
also suffered from ear infections
,
headache
and allergic symptoms was brought to
the chiropractor. Chiropractic analysis revealed
multiple cervical, thoracic and pelvic Subluxations
and multiple cranial faults. By the 11th
chiropractic adjustment hyperactivity symptoms had
abated (his other health problems had cleared up from
earlier spinal adjustments). After 5½ relatively
symptom-free months he had two falls and
hyperactivity, headache and allergy
symptoms returned. In a single
visit they resolved
.

Childhood vaccination
Most chiropractors do not vaccinate
their children, preferring natural immunity (which is
lifelong) to artificial immunity (which is temporary.
A growing number of researchers and
medical doctors as well as chiropractors believe that the risks of
vaccination damage (such as autism, allergies, asthma, learning
disorders, multiple sclerosis and other chronic illnesses) are
greater than the benefits. For the latest on the childhood
vaccination controversy we recommend you visit some of these web
sites:
Everyone’s Visiting Chiropractors!
Well, almost everyone. In fact, more people are
visiting chiropractors and drugless healers than
ever before, and the numbers are growing. It has
been estimated that the total number of visits to
chiropractors nationwide is 250 million.(1)
The number of people utilizing chiropractic and
drug-free health care increased from 34% in 1990
to 42% in 1997. This represents a 100% increase in
the number of people seeing chiropractors in the
last 20 years. (2
What’s in a name?
Perhaps more than we realize! Psychologist Brett
Pelham of the State University of NY at Buffalo
did a study on how people’s names affect their
life choices. Pelham and colleagues researched
phone directories, the Social Security Death Index
and other archives.
Among their findings: A person named Dennis is
more likely to become a dentist. A person named
George or Geoffrey is 40% more likely to become a
geologist than the general population. Those born
on March 3 (or 3/3) are more likely to live in a
town with a name like “Three Thorns”; similarly
those born on June 6 (6/6) are more likely to live
in a town with a name like “Six Forks.” (3)
